Vialardi's tower
| The Vialardi family is one of the oldest in the town and its name is linked to the institution of Middle Age Commune. In the XII century, the Vialardis lived in the building, which would afterwards become seat of the Commune palace. At the beginning of the XII century, the Vialardis sold their old houses to the Commune, and moved to the south of the town where they built a new residence. The tower dates back to the middle of the XV century and it was erected next to the family's residence. Its base is typically octagonal and the structure hasn't been modified during the ages, except for the roof that was recently refurbished. The commune seat chanced to be once again next to the Vialardi's tower, that seems to be fated to overlook the institutions of Vercelli. |
Torre dei Vialardi
La famiglia dei Vialardi è fra le più antiche della città ed il suo nome è legato all'istituzione del comune medievale. La dimora antica dei Vialardi era infatti nel XII secolo nella zona poi occupata dal primitivo broletto o palazzo comunale. Cedute al Comune le antiche case per la nuova sede comunale i Vialardi, al principio del Duecento, si trasferirono più a Sud dove costruirono il loro nuovo palazzo. La torre è della metà del Quattrocento e sorge nell'area occupata dalle residenze dell'omonima famiglia. Ha la tipica pianta ottagonale e non ha subito rilevanti modifiche, solo il tetto è di recente rifacimento. Caso vuole che la sede comunale sia oggi nuovamente a pochi metri dalla Torre dei Vialardi che sembra quindi destinata a vegliare sulle istituzioni municipali vercellesi. gs
